Next Deadline: October 22, 2021
The Graduate Student Council and the Associated Students of CSU (ASCSU) are excited to sponsor quarterly grant applications to support graduate student professional development at CSU. Broadly, the GSC Professional Development and Supply (PDS) grants are intended to help fund graduate students attending professional development opportunities (such as workshops, trainings, and seminars) as well as to help fund supplies needed to complete research, work efficiently, or teach successfully. The PDS grants are not intended to cover the cost of conference registration and attendance. For funding for conferences, please refer to the GSC Travel Grant. The PDS grant is open to all graduate students attending CSU.
Students are invited to apply for two tiers depending on their needs:
Tier 1: 10 grants of $100 each
Tier 2: 6 grants of $250 each
Applicants who are not awarded grants at their chosen tier will also be considered for lower-tier grants, if applicable.
You can fill out an application here, or at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSc1oLZ86qD6DA7jxhETa_6t9dsLFyBco7SoZFhoGIkEbuWUkQ/viewform
Any graduate student enrolled in a Masters or Ph.D. granting program at CSU is eligible. There is no preference given for the type of degree or program of the applicant. These factors are not considered in the scoring process. Funds will be awarded based on three metrics: 1) the cost and eligibility of the item or registration being purchased, 2) the impact of the purchase on the applicant’s program, and 3) the applicant’s ability to describe the impact of their research, art, or program in a jargon-free manner.
- Applicants must file for reimbursement no later than May 1st of the academic year within which they are applying.
- Late applications will not be accepted.
Please note, applicants must use granted funds by May 1, 2022, for all grants awarded in the 2021-2022 academic year. See eligibility for more info.

The PDS can be used towards buying materials for research or art; supplies needed to study, research, or teach; technology needs for research or work; transportation to a service site; payment towards student assistant(s); registration for workshops or seminars; or professional memberships. Broadly, if you can justify how an item would help your research (and it is university approved), we would like to fund it! Examples of costs that cannot be funded (not university approved) include medical expenses; student fees (unfortunately); gift cards or payment to participants; supplemental pay for a CSU employee; alcohol; entertainment; indirect costs; monthly subscriptions; and tuition. Grantees will need to file for reimbursement through their home department using the account number provided by the Graduate Student Council upon notice of a successful application. The fund cannot be transferred to a specific departmental account or RamWeb, nor can an applicant request for a direct check or money transfer. All unused funds will be returned to Graduate Student Council.
